Silicon as Orthosilicic Acid (OSA) is Readily Absorbed and Bioavailable

A new publication from the prestigious British Journal of Nutrition (2009), page 1 - 11 titled

“ The comparative absorption of silicon from different foods and food supplements” the lead researcher from University of Cambridge, Human Nutrition Research, showed that monomeric silica such as orthosilicic acid (OSA) which is a small neutrally charged molecule, is much more readily absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract as compared with larger, charged polymers and colloidal  species which needed to be broken down to the monomeric form in the gastrointestinal lumus  before absorption.

This study found that Choline stabilized Orthosilicic Asid (ChOSA) is about 4 times less absorbed than the OSA say in beer. (17% VS 64%).  However, “colloidal silica”, which is in fact precipitated and completely polymerized silica, showed very low absorption ( < 2%).

Comment:

Hence this study confirmed that silicon in the monomeric form such as OSA as found in Spritzer Natural Mineral Water is bioavailable and readily absorbable.
